Analysis of Amores Perros Film by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu Essay

Analysis of Amores Perros Film by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu - Essay Example This paper would try to look at how Mexican history is actually portrayed in the movie. In order to achieve this, the researcher would try to look into three main themes: the background of the different people behind the production of this movie (especially the director and the screenwriter), the contemporary socio-cultural, economic, and political contexts during the showing of this film, and on how the film itself portrayed or provided a representation of Mexican society from the historical elements in it. In discussing such themes, the researcher would try to answer the following questions: Does the background of the director and the screenwriter, especially in their class origin, heavily influenced their view of Mexican society, and on how it was portrayed in the movie? How did the film try to represent contemporary issues in the movie (including socio-cultural, political and economic issues)? Did the film attempted to identify the historical roots of the complexities of todayâ⠂¬â„¢s Mexico City as portrayed in the movie, or did they isolate significant historical developments from their portrayal? Body The director behind the highly acclaimed â€Å"Amores Perros† is director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. Inarritu, born in Mexico City in 1963, actually came from a middle-class family (Deleyto and Azcona x). Not having the resources that the Mexican elite possessed, he started to make a living as a deejay at one radio station, all while he was actually studying filmmaking (Deleyto and Azcona x). In addition, by the 1990s he then started to become one of the youngest producers of the Mexican television station Televisa, which also happened to be one of the premier television stations in the country (Deleyto and Azcona x). For most of the 1990s, Inarritu devoted his time in making commercials, until he finally met Guillermo Arriaga towards the end of the decade (Deleyto and Azcona x).  Ã‚

On Ageing by Maya Angelou Essay Example for Free

On Ageing by Maya Angelou Essay Warning by jenny joseph is a humorous way of looking towards old age. It is written as a monologue within which the poet describes how she will behave when she is an old woman. In The first stanza she talks about herself and lists all the things she will do when she is old. She says she will wear the colours purple and red which are significant in the fact that they are bright garish colours. The two colours clash with each other and would not be put together by someone who cares about keeping up their appearance. One of the main themes to this poem is the idea of rebelling against the way society expects you to behave and the idea of not conforming therefore she decides to deliberately make a statement with her appearance by wearing clashing colours to show rebellion against the idea of everyone looking the same- everyone conforming. This idea of rebellion is further emphasised when she says I shall spend my pension on brandy and say weve no money for butter. She has decided that she is going to be deliberately difficult and irresponsible. She is desperate to rebel against the norms of responsible adulthood and change the way she has always been escape from the sobriety of my youth . The acts she chooses are harmless and humorous and she will be likely to get away with them as people will think she is senile. The fact that all of these things are what she wants to do in the future shows that she has never done this before and so she could be saying that old age is the time for freedom and to escape from the rules in society. However this could also show that she is only able to do these things with the excuse of being elderly. She would never feel comfortable to break the rules without having the excuse of being senile etc hence why she is waiting until old age to do these things showing that she is still trapped in the rules of society. This shows the underlying more depressing image behind the humour that society doesnt allow for freedom and the message of how the pressure there is to conform prevents you from being yourself. All of the lines in the poem run on with a quick pace into each other reflecting the excitement and anticipation for the things she talks about doing. Throughout she repeats and and I which also adds to the pace and energy of the poem. The second stanza itself is one long sentence in which she directly addresses the reader with words of encouragement. She wants other people to feel and be able to do whatever they like without worrying about the social pressures of conformity, she could be thinking that if everyone does this then eventually those pressures will not be a problem anymore.

Herbal Phen-fen :: Pills Phen-fen Health Weight Loss Essays

Herbal Phen-fen "Lose All the Weight You Want", "Look Sexy and Feel Great", "Use the Safer Alternative", claim advertisements promoting the use of a recently-created dietary supplement known as herbal phen fen (CompuGraph International ) Created after the original phen fen (phentermine fenfluramine) drug was recalled from the market as a result of serious side effects, including severe heart problems which proved fatal for some consumers, the new herbal phen fen was praised by creators for being "all natural" and lacking any harmful side effects. One who relies strictly on internet advertisements for information concerning herbal phen fen, however, may be seriously misinformed and misled about the true nature of this herbal "cure-all" for weight problems. Articles from various journals and periodicals reveal a darker side of herbal phen fen, illustrating the possible harmful side effects of the pill and explaining the dangers of individual ingredients composing herbal phen fen. Claims of many advert isements for herbal phen fen drectly contradict medical research and scientific studies, raising questions about the effectiveness and safety of the new pill. Popular culture teaches people to search for immediate gratification and quick fix-all methods for every problem, thus fast-working pills appeal to those who don't want to spend months trying to lose weight by exercising and eating healthfully. Advertisers capitalize on this quality of public consumers by appealing to public demands for fast results. "Phen-'Nominal' Results Fast" states one ad on the internet, appropriately titled "Herbal Phen Fast", which boasts the pill's ability to "suppress the formation of fats". The ad, which was produced by the company HealthMatrix, Inc., portrays herbal phen fen as a quick, safe, easy and effective way to control hunger, reduce cravings and ultimately lose weight, yet avoids explaining the side effects of the pill by dismissing symptoms as "few and well-tolerated". The ad names and defines the two primary ingredients of herbal phen fen, St. John's Wort and Mahuang, explaining that the combination of these ingredients leads to weight loss. The ad is designed to appear scientific with the claim that the main ingredient of herbal phen fen, St. John's Wort, "prolongs the reuptake of serotonin in the brain", leading to feelings of personal satisfaction (HealthMatrix, Inc.) The ad provides no evidence, research or case studies for this claim or any other claims. Three quotations by consumers of the pill are included in the ad, but interestingly enough, though the consumers claim feeling "more energetic" and satisfied by smaller portions, none of the quotations actually mention weight loss.

Macbeth by William Shakespeare: Critique Essay

A critique on the main character in William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. So foul and fair a day I have not seen.† This is a famous quote by Macbeth, the antagonist in William Shakespeare’s classic work, The Tragedy of Macbeth. This one line takes place when Macbeth and Banquo are returning from their victory in battle over the Norwegians. Following this quote further it could be looked at in a broader spectrum of Macbeth’s triumphs and failures. He goes from a warrior hero to a murderer, and lastly, his tragic flaw brings him to his death. When critiquing Macbeth the main points to look at are his actions, blind ambition, excessive pride, and lastly, his boldness and impression of personal invincibility which eventually leads to his death. See how he can be at the height of his life one moment and in his grave the next due to a few prophecies by witches and his blind ambition. To begin, looking at Macbeth, his actions are obviously a major flaw. In the beginning of the tragedy, his actions are looked at as heroic with his destruction of the Norwegians and King Sweno in battle. This is crucial to the play, because a tragedy depends on the downfall of an already great man. In an outside source, it is said that the lines when Macbeth killed Duncan (â€Å"unseam’d him from the nave to the chops, and fix’d his head upon our battlements†) are meant to foreshadow Macbeth’s death at the end of the play. However, as the play progresses, the major action occurs when, although Macbeth is filled with misgivings, he ascends to King Duncan’s chamber and murders him in his sleep. This shows that he is willing to kill his loyal king so that he can make the prophecies come true that he may someday be king. Following this, when Macbeth thinks back to the witches’ prophecy regarding Banquo that one of his descendants will become king. Macbeth looks at this as a threat to his own position. Unable to undo these thoughts, Macbeth hires two murderers to kill Banquo and his son, Fleance. During the Banquet the murderers contact him and explain that Banquo is dead, but Fleance escaped. Macbeth explains that he is not worried with Fleance. The final action that dooms Macbeth is when he kills Macduff’s wife and child. Macbeth goes to the Weird Sisters to hear a series of apparitions to predict his future. This first apparition is Macduff’s head warning Macbeth that a  bloody revenge of Duncan’s son, Malcolm is soon to come. When he is threatened again for his position of kingship Macbeth looks for further political survival and is also angered. He arranges the death of Macduff’s wife and children. This ultimately hurts Macbeth because it angers Macduff more, and he sides with Malcolm for revenge on Macbeth. Moreover, throughout the play Macbeth’s life if completely subverted and undermined by his insatiable ambition. At the start of the story he was reasonable enough to keep his ambition under control, although it eventually became to strong and overpowered him. However, he did control his ambition much longer than his wife who was overcome once she heard that King Duncan was coming. The first sign of Macbeth losing his ambition is with the three witches and their prophecies. Although he questions their motives, he doesn’t believe that they are in fact pushing him down a path of evil and despair. He says that their visit â€Å"cannot be ill, cannot be good.† This scene shows that Macbeth at first questions the motives of the witches, and the moral implications of killing King Duncan. He also sees his ambition forming when he doesn’t refute the title as King and in fact accepts the title of Thane of Cawdor. This shows in the lines – If Chance will have me King. Why/ Chance may crown me.† (Shakespeare; I, iii, 141-142) Macbeth’s ambition doesn’t take off until it is fueled by his wife’s great ambition. An interesting character in the story is Banquo. He parallels Macbeth in the beginning but when they both hear the prophecies he is much less accepting of them. I believe that the contrast was created to emphasize Macbeth’s tragic flaw. One critical perspective views Banquo’s function as essentially symbolic: he is portrayed as a man who, like Macbeth, has the capacity for both God’s grace and sin; but unlike the protagonist, he puts little stock in the Weird Sisters, prophecies and does not succumb to their temptations. Banquo’s reluctance to dwell on the witches’ predictions therefore underscores, by contrast, the nature of Macbeth’s descent into evil. (Scott; 238)To reiterate, looking at Macbeth’s ambition throughout the tragedy, I came to one conclusion. As time passes, a once moral man cannot hold off the temptations of the power he could achieve. This idea is stated in the following passage: â€Å"One of the most significant reasons for the enduring critical interest in Macbeth’s character is that he represents humankind’s universal propensity to temptation and sin. Macbeth’s excessive ambition motivates him to murder  Duncan, and once the evil act is accomplished, he sets into motion a series of sinister events that ultimately lead to his downfall.† (Scott; 236) As one can clearly see, Macbeth’s ambition clearly got to him and he couldn’t overpower it. Furthermore, the last flaw in Macbeth is his boldness and impression of personal invincibility. Toward the end of the play when Macbeth approaches the witches for three more prophesies, which seem impossible. The first prophecy is the head of Macduff warning Macbeth of a bloody revenge by Malcolm. The second is a blood-covered child who explains to Macbeth that he cannot be harmed by any man â€Å"of woman born†. The third is a child wearing a crown that explains Macbeth cannot be defeated until Birnam Wood physically â€Å"uproots† itself and moves to Dunsinane hill. Macbeth is not worried because he believes, as anyone would, these predictions are impossible. However, as the play progresses he hears from a servant that a large army is moving toward Dunsinane Hill. Macbeth ignores the warning, as he believes he is invincible. These are the beginning signs that we see that Macbeth may be ignoring his own doom due to his belief in personal invincibility. In addition, in the last portion of the play we find that English and rebel Scottish armies who march to Birnam Wood have been directed by Malcolm for each soldier to cut a branch and carry it in front of them as camouflage â€Å"to shadow the numbers of our host.† When Macbeth hears word that this has happened, he begins to realize that the prophecy has come true, but he still is trying to deny it. When Malcolm and his troops finally reach Dunsinane hill under the â€Å"leafy screens† of branches the apparition has come true: Birnam Wood has come to Dunsinane Hill. Macbeth puts on his armor and goes to battle with his army. On the battlefield Macbeth and Macduff at last come face to face. Macduff reveals to Macbeth that he entered the world by being â€Å"untimely ripp’d† from his mother’s whom. Under these circumstances he was not strictly â€Å"born† of woman. When Macbeth hears this he realizes his struggle for survival has come to an end. He realizes how foolish he was for believing in his invincibility. Macduff kills Macbeth with anger in his heart for the death of his family. These final couple scenes really show that Macbeth’s boldness and belief in invincibility end his reign of power,  and cause his death. In conclusion, â€Å"So foul and fair a day I have not seen.† Is a very appropriate quote by Macbeth for the battle at the start of the play, but also for the path of his life. In William Shakespeare’s masterpiece Macbeth, he created a character that will live on for years to come. The character Macbeth is a great antagonist because he is bought up to be a hero in the beginning of the play but because of his actions, blind ambition, boldness, and impression of personal invincibility he finds his death. This play was clearly my favorite by Shakespeare solely because of the character Macbeth and how, I, the reader could sit back and realize all of the mistakes he is making, before he realized it and was too late. Athenian Acropolis Paper

The Athenian Acropolis could be considered the most representative of the Greek Acropolis. The Athenian Acropolis is located on the top of a mountain and it was used as a defense and as a site of the main places of worship. The entrance to the Acropolis is a gate called Propylaia performed by the architect Mnesikles. At the front right side of the Propylaia, there is an Ionic building named the Temple of the Athena Nike designed by Kallikrates. A great statue of Athena created by Phidias, was originally stood in the center. To the right of where this sculpture was, there is the Parthenon. The architects that carried out this building were Iktinos and Kallikrates. The Parthenon is a Doric temple, which was designed with slight corrections in order to counteract the optical effects of perspective; therefore, all apparently straight lines were actually slightly sculpted curves in order to create harmony. To the left and at the end of the Acropolis, it is the Erechtheion, which is an Ioni c temple and it has a platform supported by six caryatids.Elgin was a British ambassador in Constantinople, he had the idea to take all the monuments of the Parthenon sculptures and take them to his country. As ambassador, he received some papers from the Ottoman sultan to take some pieces from the floor of the Acropolis. Elgin took most of the sculptural decoration of the monuments, columns, and hundreds of pieces and moved to England, and then he sold them to the British Museum where they are still displayed. The Elgin Marbles must return to Athens. Athens was attacked by the Persian soldiers. The Athenians had to leave the city. Later the Athenians defeated the Persians, but Athens was on ruins and it had to be rebuilt. The man in charge about the reconstruction was Pericles. He reunited the better architects, sculptors and artisans and they rebuilt the city. The Propylaia is the entrance to the Acropolis. It was built on 437—432 BCE. The architect in charge of this buildin g was Mnesikles. The centerpiece of the Propylaia has six Doric columns on the fronts, and inside there are two halls separated by a wall with several doors. On each side, two terraces with gates gave access to the interior rooms. One of this terraces displayed pictures from that time. It was built with pentelic marble. The temple of Athena Nike was built on 427—424 BCE. The project was commissioned to Kallikrates, an architect who also worked in the construction of the Parthenon. It is made by Pentelic marble. On both fronts have four Ionic columns of limited height. Among its decorations, it had beautiful sculptures carved on it, and especially a frieze decorated with reliefs representing the fight of the Athenians against the Persians.Something that stands was a relief of Athena holding her sandal. These sculptures are made with great delicacy and elegance of the clothes. The Parthenon was built on 447—438 BCE. The architects of this building were Iktinos and Kallikr ates. It is a Doric temple. It consisted of eight columns on its two main facades and seventeen on the sides surrounding the entire temple. The front of the west represents the fight of Athena and Poseidon to get the patronage of the city. The frieze shows the representation of the Panathenaic procession, the most important religious festival in Athens. The scene is along the four sides of the building and includes figures of gods, beasts and about three hundred and sixty people. The Parthenon had the great statue of the goddess Athena Parthenos, who made Phidias. It was 38-foot-tall and made with gold and savory. The Erechteion is an Ionic temple. It was built on 421—405 BCE. The Erechteion is on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens in honor of Athena and Poseidon. This temple is the achievement of an asymmetric building, with a complex floor that consists of three sections dedicated to different gods. The main porch has six columns on its front, with its interior divide d into different zones, a statue of Athena carved in wood was here. The second part corresponds to the north porch, which was decorated with four columns in front and two on the sides. On the left are three holes, which according to mythology, they were made by Poseidon's trident. The south porch of the Caryatids is a small gallery of great beauty because of the sacred statues that serve as columns. The Caryatids are supporting the architrave. Those that are on the Erechteion right now are copies of the originals. The originals are in the Acropolis Museum and the British Museum. Some of the arguments about the Parthenon Marbles should return to Greece are that the marbles belong to the Parthenon which is a universal monument and not only belong to Greece. If all the pieces return to Greece, historians would be able to analyze better the Parthenon and they could come up with conclusions or discover new things if it is appreciated as a whole. Another argument is that Elgin did not have the permit to take pieces from the Parthenon, he just had permit to take a few pieces from the floor. The Parthenon Marbles are not the principal attraction in the British Museum, in the other hand if they return to Athens, tourists, historians and the Greeks can observe and analyze them in a better way. Some sculptures were sculpted in order to keep them white but this caused damage to the sculptures because the original paint was removed. One of the arguments why the British Museum does not want to return the pieces is due to Pollution, but now Athens has a museum next to the Parthenon which it is acclimated in order to prevent damage to the Marbles. At the British Museum, there are amounts of other treasures, and the Parthenon Marbles are unique in the world that is why they should be returned to Greece, because they are part of its history and heritage. On the other hand about this debate, there are also arguments about why the Parthenon Marbles should stay in the British Museum. One of the arguments by which the Parthenon Marbles should stay at the British Museum is that it is the most visited museum in the world and has no cost.People already know that the Parthenon Marbles are at the British Museum, they have been there for years, therefore; they are already an important collection of the Museum. Some experts say that the Parthenon Marbles should be returned. But others say they are safer in museums in other countries. In the case of the Parthenon Marbles, for example, experts claim that they are protected from pollution in Athens. If the museum returns the Parthenon Marbles a global war can begin and countries can start claiming their treasures. The Parthenon Marbles have been at the British Museum by years in a good condition, if they return to Athens can be damaged during the transfer. Greece must be grateful to the British Museum for taking care of these marbles and should stay at the British Museum for standing there too many years. That is why the P arthenon Marbles should stay at the British Museum. I think what it really a matter is where the marbles are. The Parthenon Marbles were created as an integral part of the temple.I am studying Travel and Tourism, and I know that when people travel or go to museums, they like to see and enjoy the complete exhibition, not only a few parts of the exhibition or collection. That’s why I think the Parthenon Marbles should be in their original place which is Greece. The marbles are not the principal attraction in the British Museum, they should be in their original place so that tourists can appreciate the entire collection. The Parthenon Marbles are a symbol of Greece culture and they should be to the place that they belong.

Importance and Role of Leadership in Globalization

Importance and Role of Leadership in Globalization Leadership is a word whose definition cannot be vividly explained. Many books have been written on this topic Businesses, counselors and motivational speakers have also contributed in this debate. However, the need to find a definition doesn’t require one to look for a specific definition that can be accepted by everybody, but rather a definition that tries to explain what leadership should be in totality.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Importance and Role of Leadership in Globalization specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The reason for choosing a working definition is to enable the debate of its role and importance on globalization to be understood. According to Kouzes and Posner (3), â€Å"Leadership is ultimately about creating a way for people to contribute making something happen.† Lussier and Achua (4) argued that, â€Å"Leadership is really a crock; it is about manipulating people to get them to d o something they don’t want to do, and there may be anything in it for them.† Leadership can be considered to be the provision of a vision to the people whom one has authority over and pushing through the understanding of the vision and the achievement of its goals for the benefit of the institution one is leading. Grint (4) on the other hand, looks at leadership from different perspectives. He describes leadership to be a position, a person, a result or a process that gets things done Some of the popular people in the world have been known to be leaders depending on how one views leadership. The enthusiasm a person has while heading a company, country or an organization will obviously give him/her credit based on the success of that institution. If that is the case, then, there are a number of renowned leaders in the world. Bill Gates for instance, is a famous and popular multi billionaire. Credit is given to him as the leader and brain behind the Microsoft Corporation . His contribution to the field of Graphical User Interface computing and desktop is a great idea developed by him. Another remarkable leader in the Information and communication Technology Industry is Steve jobs who despite dropping out of school, managed to lead Apple Computers to success and production of Tech Savvy gadgets. Indeed, it is the zeal with which they steered their ideas that led to their success. Other types of leaders can be drawn from politics, religion and education. Lussier and Achua (7) argue that all managers perform a leadership rolse among their four activities including planning, organizing and controlling. Leadership and skills are very essential in the success of an organization. The kind of a leader an organization has determines the pace at which it will grow if it is growth focused. Some people say that leaders are born while others say leaders are made. Whichever side one may be in, the fact is that an individual has to learn leadership skills in order to lead. For a business to prosper, it would need more strategic leadership rather than leadership itself. This is because business thrives in a market with many environmental variables which affect the output of the business. It should be strategic because the environment constantly change and the business policies and ideas must change with it.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Globalization Globalization is the main point discussed in this paper. Steger (2) states that globalization is the â€Å"shrinkage of time and space†. It can also be defined as the linkage of world economic, cultural, political, and technological advancements. It has a tremendous importance to the seven billion plus people in the world. The prevailing tone concerning globalization is that, people are optimistic towards its intentions and outcomes. Incomplete globalization causes unde sirable problems along the way though the ultimate goal of global peace and prosperity is considered to be achieved at the end. Not only will globalization bring world economy into efficiency, but it will also provoke political and social fields to overcome national barriers. The first and foremost benefit of globalization is economic efficiency. Not only have countries been able to focus on their primary industries and save budgets from developing inefficient ones, but they have also been provided with a wider range of products to select from. Globalization has also laid out the groundwork for free trades which contributed largely to the bigger market. Reasons for globalization Globalization is making the market accessible to everybody in the world. In fact, the concept of globalization has made the world to be a global village whereby, one can be able to buy a commodity from one continent and within two days, the commodity is shipped to the buyer. There are various reasons why the world has to embrace the concept of globalization. Globalization has enhanced food security in a number of ways. Food security is a situation whereby, producers produce enough food and sell at a fair price while consumers find enough food at fair prices all times. It is expected that no one should control the free flow of food while farmers are paid well from their produce without exploiting their customers. Food security is a major world concern because without food, everything is in a mess. There are many ways that globalization can enhance food security. The discovery of food biotechnologies that enhance the growth of faster growing, drought resistant and disease resistant plants has been a great milestone that has been shared throughout the world. Through this initiative, food production has been enhanced throughout the world for those who have embraced it. The fact that food can be sold freely in the world market with minimum or no barriers, it has also contributed greatly tow ards food security. McDonald (39) indicates that, â€Å"modern globalization brings new opportunities for improving human livelihoods and well being. In addition, it also brings greater recognition of the persistent sources of human insecurity from threats such as a lack of sufficient food.†Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Importance and Role of Leadership in Globalization specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The contribution of globalization to food security is so great that a person in Africa can eat chicken from the United States of America with as much enthusiasm as that of their home. The Kentucky Fried chicken company is able to transport its chicken reared in America to the capital city of Kenya in Africa and still make reasonable sales fetching profits from their sales. The fact that food can move all the way from America to Africa is a big contribution to food security in the region. Food security can si mply be defined as availability of food at the right time and place and at affordable rates for the population. Globalization of culture is also a big idea that enhances world peace and integration. Integration improves relations between countries thereby embracing common values that make people understand each other. Therefore, they are able to live with each other peacefully. Ismail (3) states that, â€Å"globalization is currently enhancing the world’s atmosphere and is familiar to people from a diversity of civilizations†. Globalization is beautiful to world peace but it can be ugly in different dimensions. The fact that countries can trade freely with each other can be misused to for instance, sell weapons to countries that may be in dispute. This is used by countries that produce weapons hence, encouraging war between the countries that are at war. This is mainly used so that the country selling the weapons gains from the sale without taking the responsibility of the actions of the buying country. This is one of the undesirable effects of globalization. This however, should be controlled by international bodies and the big brother countries like the United States of America in achieving world peace. Globalization and technology have enhanced each other in different ways. Through free movement of technology in the world, the globe has been made like the size of a village. For instance, one can send an email to another within few seconds in a different continent. Through technology, communication has been enhanced and this has consequently enhanced integration through intermarriages and other unions. Over the past two decades Papageorgiou and Jaumotte (6) argue that, â€Å"income growth has been positive for all quintiles in virtually all regions and all income groups during the recent period of globalization, however, income inequality had increased mainly in middle and high income countries.†Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More This is contributed slightly by patent rules and regulations. For instance, people argue that through patent, the Microsoft Corporation has ensured monopoly over the years. This is so because the company produces products that cannot be used in other platforms and as well they discourage other people from making similar products. Technology has enhanced globalization greatly both positively and negatively. Through technology, revolutions have been experienced in the Arab world, it is said that a single ‘tweet’ spreads across the world in seconds. Depending on the message it carries, the results may be detrimental. A case that was experienced in the year 2011 is one that indicated that people receiving calls from a red number ending with triple 6 will die immediately after receiving it. This was a panic message that went viral and circulated very fast through mobile gadgets. In addition, giving tornado or any other disaster warnings to the populace is fast through techno logy. This is a great idea in globalization because now, people can communicate easily. This can influence leadership in the world in general. Previously, it was very difficult to express your views to the president. However, in the world today, it is very easy to drop a message to president Obama in a second. This has been able to put leaders on the spot, backing up the efforts of the media in the pushing of the political leaders to be responsible. Religion and globalization is also an area that influences each other and the leaders of these religious groups. Laguerre (17) indicates that, â€Å"a religion is global when it defines itself as a multinational, multicultural, and multiethnic faith based community project as reflected in its demographic composition.† Something is said to be global when it includes everybody or everything in the wider set. Globalization of culture, trade, technology, leadership, and socialization and other factors has enhanced the growth of religi ons and religious beliefs. For instance, through the internet, people are able to learn through correspondence and get to know much about the religion they want to join or learn about. Communication has been made easy so that people can criticize their leaders in their faiths positively. Another way through which globalization has impacted on religion is by enhancing its growth through free movement of the ambassadors of religion. The believers can be able to meet anywhere in the world and congregate and share what they belief in common. Through satellite Television, televangelism has led to expansion of religious institutions because people get ‘converted’ easily as it is easy to reach them at the same time. However, there is nothing that has only the best, there are shortcomings of globalization. Some of the religious leaders have ended up duping their followers into contributing money for projects that do not exist. The money obviously, ends up in their pockets. Thes e are some the undesirable effects of globalization of religion. Impact of leadership on globalization The phrase ‘think globally but act locally’ is not a clichà © in the leadership realm. It emphasizes the need to consult widely before acting. It is very important just like in construction of software’s, there are variables that will be used by ‘everybody’ and there are those that will be used by specific methods only. The programmer has control of all programs, thus, he/she should be able to coordinate them so as to achieve the best results. The paper has concentrated on globalization on the global sense hence, it is proper to look at how leadership has affects especially the growth of globalization. We first concentrate on leadership and globalization of religion. For a religious group to become global, it has to be multinational, multiracial, multicultural and multilingual. To achieve that, the group must define a strategy in which they will re ach different kinds of people. They should be able to devise a means through which they will reach the people and capture their attention. For that to be effective, it will depend greatly on the leaders. In an economy, the executive and the legislative arm of government make decisions which will affect the economy directly. They will have to make a decision on whether to concentrate the income of the economy like development of infrastructure as opposed to food production or education for a particular period of time. According to Laguerre (68), â€Å"developing infrastructural sign posts throughout the globe as a result of the missionary system that fuels its geographical expansion.† In fact, the local churches are units of the global network in different national territories worldwide. This is a brilliant idea that can only be implemented by the leadership of the church. Those who think locally can never go local but those who think global and act local do so by acting local in different locations. The result is a global network which essentially enhances globalization. Thus, brilliant leadership is the catalyst of religious globalization in this context. Think of a spiritual leader who thinks that people who are his/her friends are the only ones who should congregate with him. This leader is deemed to fail and the conclusion is that, his/her leadership is not remarkable. This will definitely leave people in their cocoons and they will not learn anything but have squabbles within themselves. The leadership of the ‘church’ then must be aggressive and change with time as well. They should also be able to devise new ways of attracting people to their congregation in the process of globalizing the church. In any case, a leader who cannot see the way, no one will guide him or her. The clichà ©, a blind man cannot lead another blind makes a lot of sense here. It is very important for the leadership of an organization to show and lead the way to the truth. Hence, for religion to become global, the leadership of the religion must be able to design policies that can encourage the followers. Otherwise, the ‘church’ or ‘mosque’ will not be in a position to go global but will just belong to a certain region. Leadership’s economic effect on globalization can be considered a great topic to discuss. Thompson and Reuveny (74) indicate that, â€Å"leadership change affects the Northern economy more than the Southern economy.† This clearly indicates that, leadership is pivotal to the economy of the world in general. The leadership basically makes decisions that affect the movement of products, knowledge and goods within an economy. This is so because if the leadership is clear in their mind, they are supposed to formulate policies that encourage investments from other countries (foreign investment) because they will do so within their means. An example is a third world country that is developin g which has to concentrate on particular issues than others. For instance, it is clear that education, medical care and shelter are very critical in the development of the country. But then, it is fair for the leadership to think outside the box and develop infrastructure that will enable private and foreign investors to invest in the country so that they generate jobs. The jobs so far generated will then make the lives of the employees better and the government will collect taxes that they would divert to education, medicine and other areas of development. Changing leadership technically affects globalization. For instance, there is something called friendship of nations. Once governments change, the concept of giving tenders to quality is not abided to rather, it is directed to nations that seem to be friendly to the sitting leadership. This is experienced in developing countries in the world. In America, the effect is usually felt by the party having presidency when it changes be tween the republicans and the democrats. The push to accept ideologies of either party greatly affects where to invest in the world and what to invest in. This directly affects the concept of globalization. According to Thompson and Reuveny (80), â€Å"it is consistent in our expectation that systematic leadership and long waves of economic growth are drivers of systemic phenomena such as economic globalization.† The economy of a country purely depends on government policies. These policies may be made in a way that will encourage or discourage foreign investors. If they encourage foreign investments, it is possible for people from all parts of the world to have a share of the local market. And this is what is known as economic globalization. It is clear that the leadership greatly impacts economic globalization a great deal. Leadership directly dictates the policies formulated, this is what will either encourage or discourage globalization. Political impact on globalization is very evident in the world. The latest incidences are coup staged in West African countries. Once the politicians cause instability in a country, any foreign agent in that country runs back to their country. Each country hosts ambassadors from countries it thinks have common interests. In most countries, the ambassadors are supposed to sell the good things about their home government. However, sometimes the big brother countries try to influence the politics of developing countries so that they can benefit from it. Prechel (3) wrote, â€Å"Advocates of this ‘global neoberalism’ believe it is necessary to sub ordinate states and politics to requirements of capital accumulation. This is clear because it affects globalization directly. In a matter of fact, the concept of globalization was born by political leaders because it must be steered ahead by the same political leaders who embrace the idea. Those who did not like the idea will keep fighting it to the end. Somethi ng good and beneficial to the masses will always go viral and the many that like it will make good use of it. The world bodies like the World Bank, United Nations, and International Monetary Fund are influenced by political leaders. The decisions made by these bodies directly affect politics of other parts of the world. This is something to think about in globalization. The politicians of a certain country may be backed by the UN while the opponents are not backed. This may because a major drift will either affect globalization positively or negatively. In the case of Muhamar Gadhafi who was ousted in Libya by the Transitional Government Fighters backed by NATO, is a good example of the effect of politics in globalization. It is said that the former Libyan leader was ruling with an iron fist hence, discouraging democracy and the immigration of foreigners into the country. Thus, he was discouraging globalization. Someone may conclude that after his regime, the country opened up and t here is free flow of information into and out of the country. Recommendation and Conclusion Globalization is real and helpful in the world today. It is of prime importance that people embrace togetherness making the world like a global village. If globalization is used objectively, it will enhance world peace, food security and international cohesion. Leadership has the biggest role in it. It is clear that if the leadership of various countries doesn’t enact proper government policies that encourage international business, international culture, and international relations then globalization cannot prevail. Leaders must remember that they must have a vision and work for the dream tirelessly. Sometimes they have to go an extra mile so that their dreams of a prosperous nation can be realized. The clichà © a blind man cannot lead another blind man is true in the sense that leaders must be brilliant people who are informed and ready to work in a vision that they have. Thinking g lobally and acting locally is a great quote for all leaders because local makes global. Leaders must factor in all global factors before implementing any action locally. The fact that human beings have common basic needs is a clear driver of why people should share the world resources through globalization. The reason for this assumption is that, globalization makes it possible to sell or buy commodities that one cannot produce in his/her country. Grint, Keith. Homoioteleuton - Definition and Examples in English

Homoioteleuton s in English Homoioteleuton is the use of similar sound endings to words, phrases, or sentences.   In rhetoric, homoioteleuton is regarded as a figure of sound. Brian Vickers equates this figure with assonance or prose rhyme (In Defence of Rhetoric, 1988).  In The Arte of English Poesy (1589), George Puttenham  compared the Greek figure of homoioteleuton to our vulgar rhyme, offering this example: Weeping, creeping, beseeching I wan / The love at length of Lady Lucian. Etymology:  From the Greek, like ending Pronunciation:  ho-moi-o-te-LOO-ton Also Known  As:  near  rhyme, prose rhyme Alternate Spellings:  homeoteleuton,  homoeoteleuton Examples My mother weeping, my father wailing, my sister crying, our maid howling, our cat wringing her hands. In fact, as sensible economists observed when their study first came out, correlation is not causation. (The Nation, May 13, 2013) Homoioteleuton as a Pattern of Repetition Homoioteleuton is a series of words with similar endings such as those with the Latinate suffixes -ion (e.g., presentation, action, elaboration, interpretation), -ence (e.g., emergence), and -ance (e.g., resemblance, performance). These suffixes work to nominalize verbs (transform verbs into nouns) and tend to appear most regularly in what Williams (1990) referred to as the various -eses (idioms such as legalese and bureaucratese. Like other patterns of repetition, homoioteleuton helps to build or reinforce connections, as in this example from the English politician Lord Rosebery in an 1899 speech: Imperialism, sane imperialism . . . is nothing but this - a larger patriotism. Judith Sargent Murray, Early Feminist and Writer

Judith Sargent Murray, Early Feminist and Writer Judith Sargent Murray (May 1, 1751–July 6, 1820) was an early American feminist who wrote essays on  political, social, and religious themes. She was also a gifted poet and dramatist, and her letters, some recently discovered, give insight into her life during and after the American Revolution.  She is especially known for her essays about the American Revolution under the pseudonym The Gleaner and for her feminist essay, On the Equality of the Sexes.   Fast Facts: Judith Sargent Murray Known For: Early feminist essayist, poet, novelist, and dramatistBorn: May 1, 1751 in Gloucester, MassachusettsParents: Winthrop Sargent and Judith SaundersDied: July 6, 1820 in Natchez, MississippiEducation: Tutored at homePublished Works: On the Equality of the Sexes, Sketch of the Present Situation in America, Story of Margaretta, Virtue Triumphant, and The Traveller ReturnedSpouse(s): Captain John Stevens (m. 1769–1786); Rev. John Murray (m. 1788–1809).Children: With John Murray: George (1789) who died as an infant, and a daughter, Julia Maria Murray (1791–1822) Early Life Judith Sargent Murray was born Judith Sargent on May 1, 1751, in Gloucester, Massachusetts, to shipowner and merchant Captain Winthrop Sargent (1727–1793) and his wife Judith Saunders (1731–1793). She was the oldest of the eight Sargent children. At first, Judith was educated at home and learned basic reading and writing. Her brother Winthrop, who was intended to go to Harvard, received a more advanced education at home, but when their parents recognized Judiths exceptional abilities she was allowed to share Winthrops training in classical Greek and Latin. Winthrop went did go on to Harvard, and Judith later noted that she, being female, had no such possibilities. Her first marriage, on October 3, 1769, was to Captain John Stevens, a well-to-do sea captain and trader. They had no children but adopted two of her husbands nieces and one of her own, Polly Odell. Universalism In the 1770s, Judith Stevens turned away from the Calvinism of the Congregational church she was raised in and became involved in Universalism. Calvinists said that only believers could be saved, and nonbelievers were doomed. In contrast, Universalists believed that all human beings could be saved and all people were equal. The movement was brought to Massachusetts by Rev. John Murray, who arrived in Gloucester in 1774, and Judith and her families the Sargents and the Stevens converted to Universalism. Judith Sargent Stevens and John Murray began a long correspondence and respectful friendship: in this she defied custom, which suggested it was suspect for a married woman to correspond with a man who was unrelated to her. By 1775, the Stevens family had fallen into serious  financial difficulties when the American Revolution interfered with shipping and trade, difficulties that may have been heightened by Stevens mismanagement of finances. To help out, Judith began writing; her first poems were written in 1775. Judiths first essay was Desultory Thoughts upon the Utility of Encouraging a Degree of Self-Complacency, Especially in Female Bosoms, which was published in 1784 under the pseudonym Constancia in the Boston periodical, Gentleman and Ladys Town and Country Magazine.  In 1786, Captain Stevens, to avoid debtors prison and in hopes of turning his finances around, sailed to the West Indies, but he died there in 1786. After the death of Captain Stevens, the friendship between John Murray and Judith Stevens blossomed into courtship, and on October 6, 1788, they married.   Travel and a Widening Sphere Judith Sargent Murray accompanied her new husband on many of his preaching tours, and they counted among acquaintances and friends many early leaders of the United States, including John and Abigail Adams, Benjamin Franklins family, and Martha Custis Washington, with whom they sometimes stayed. Her letters describing these visits and her correspondence with friends and relatives are invaluable in understanding the daily life in the federal period of American history. Throughout this period, Judith Sargent Murray wrote poetry, essays, and drama: some biographers suggest the loss of her son in 1790 and her own survival of what would be called postpartum depression today spurred a burst of creativity. Her essay, On the Equality of the Sexes, written in 1779, was finally published in 1790. The essay challenges the prevailing theory that men and women are not intellectually equal, and among all of her writings, that essay established her as an early feminist theorist. She added a letter including her interpretation of the biblical Adam and Eve story, insisting that Eve was equal, if not superior, to Adam. Her daughter, Julia Maria Murray, was born in 1791. Essays and Drama In February, 1792, Murray began a series of essays for the Massachusetts Magazine titled The Gleaner (also her pseudonym), which focused on the politics of the new nation of America as well as religious and moral themes, including womens equality.  One of her common early topics was the importance of educating female children- Julia Maria was 6 months old when her mother began her column. Her novel, The Story of Margaretta, was written in a series among The Gleaner essays. It is the tale of a young woman who falls prey to a sinister lover and rejects him, and she is portrayed not as a fallen woman but rather as an intelligent heroine who is capable of forging an independent life for herself. The Murrays moved from Gloucester to Boston in 1793, where together they founded a Universalist congregation. Several of her writings reveal her role in shaping the tenets of Universalism, which was the first American religion to ordain women. Murray wrote drama first in response to a call for original work by American writers (also directed to her husband, John Murray), and though her plays did not find critical acclaim, they did achieve some popular success. Her first play was The Medium: or Virtue Triumphant, and it opened and quickly closed on the Boston stage. It was, however, the first play dramatized there by an American author. In 1798, Murray published a collection of her writings in three volumes as The Gleaner. She thereby became the first American woman to self-publish a book.  The books were sold on subscription, to help support the family.  John Adams and George Washington were among the subscribers.  In 1802 she helped to found a school for girls in Dorchester. Later Life and Death John Murray, whose health had been frail for some time, had a stroke in 1809 that paralyzed him for the rest of his life.  In 1812, her daughter Julia Maria married a wealthy Mississippian named Adam Louis Bingaman, whose family had contributed somewhat to his education while he lived with Judith and John Murray. By 1812, the Murrays were experiencing painful financial issues. Judith Murray edited and published John Murrays letters and sermons that same year, as Letters and Sketches of Sermons. John Murray died in 1815, and in 1816, Judith Sargent Murray published his autobiography, Records of the Life of the Rev. John Murray. In her last years, Judith Sargent Murray continued her correspondence with her family and friends; her daughter and husband supported her financially in her later life, and she moved to their home in Natchez, Mississippi in 1816. Judith Sargent Murray died on July 6, 1820, in Natchez at the age of 69. Legacy Judith Sargent Murray was largely forgotten as a writer until late in the 20th century. Alice Rossi resurrected On the Equality of the Sexes for a collection called The Feminist Papers  in 1974, bringing it to wider attention. In 1984, Unitarian Universalist minister, Gordon Gibson, found Judith Sargent Murrays letter books in Natchez, Mississippi- books into which she kept copies of her letters. (They are now in the Mississippi Archives.) She is the only woman from that period of time for whom we have such letter books, and these copies have allowed scholars to discover much about not only Judith Sargent Murrays life and ideas, but also about daily life in the time of the American Revolution and early Republic. In 1996, Bonnie Hurd Smith founded the Judith Sargent Murray Society to promote Judiths life and work. Smith provided useful suggestions for details in this profile, which also drew on other resources about Judith Sargent Murray. Sources Field, Vena Bernadette. Clostridium Botulinum Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Clostridium Botulinum - Research Paper Example Furthermore, these spores may at times get into the human gastrointestinal system and can be able to withstand the hostile environment. Once the spores reach the colon, some germinate to produce the bacteria, but in cases of adults, often cannot withstand competition from the normal microflora. However, in infants, due to lack or few existing microflora, these organisms often take advantage of multiplying and causing infections through production of botulinum toxin. In relation to botulinum toxin, there exist several types: Toxin A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. There are only types A, B, E and rarely F, which mostly cause the flaccid paralysis symptom in humans. The other types often cause disease in animals. Botulinum toxin often results to a condition called botulism. Botulism This is a paralytic illness that results due to the botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin. People often get the toxin in their bodies via ingestion of contaminated foods already having botulinum toxin, th rough the bacteria infecting a wound and producing the toxin, and through consuming spores that produce the bacteria that finally produces the toxin to cause the condition (Smith 34). From the three modes of in which botulinum toxin could get into the human body system, one could identify three types of botulism namely; food borne botulism, wound botulism and infant botulism. Botulism is a fatal condition and all times considered medical emergencies. Botulism neurotoxins often prevent neurotransmitters in the nervous system from functioning properly. In fact, they usually inhibit the functioning of the motor control. A patient often exhibits paralysis stating from top to bottom, beginning from the eyes, face as it moves down the neck, chest, upper limbs and lower limbs (Shneider, Chang & Goodrich). Botulism often produces symptoms 12 to 72 hours on ingestion of contaminated food. Symptoms of botulism generally appear 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food.   Infant botulism This type of botulism accounts for the most number of cases reported of botulism. It often affects children due to having few or lacking microflora in their colon (Hauschild 40). In homes, improperly canned foodstuffs often the spores of the bacteria, which upon ingestion by infants, result to overgrowth of the bacteria in the colon leading in production of botulinum toxin. Symptoms In infant botulism, symptoms exhibited include poor appetite, lethargy, constipation, drooling, weak cry, poor feeding, paralysis and drooling eyelids. The general symptoms which botulism poisoning produce entail fatigue, nausea, vomiting, double vision, dizziness, dry skin, dry throat, dry mouth, difficulty swallowing, slurred speech, body aches, muscle weakness, and paralysis (Canadian Food Inspection Agency). Treatment Treatment can be instituted in the early period before the toxin takes toll of the nervous system completely. An antitoxin is often administered in such cases (Emmeluth & Alcamo 67). T he antitoxin functions by blocking the circulating botulinum toxin In the blood thereby limiting its action. This form of treatment only prevents the worsening of the patient’s condition. Patients from such incidences often take several weeks to recover completely from the effect. Prevention In relation to the three types of botulism and the mode through which the toxin gets to enter the human body, preventive measures can be

Thus this research will also focus on the main reasons that guarantee the replacement of the whole system, since some of the identified problems may be solvable. According to Robertson, S. I(2001), the best approach to problem solving, is coming up with the easy solutions. Hence before considering replacing the whole system one should consider replacing the various components in the HVAC like the thermostat. The research paper will focus on the above named issues and go dipper on giving long term solutions. The problem under analysi is a matter that affects all people, irrespective of their races and geographical location. However the problem varies from various countries on the basis of the available technology, national electricity consumption and weather patterns. The issue under analysis involves the decision on what to consider when replacing a HVAC gadget. According to the United States Department of Energy(2011) the usage of air conditioners has increased considerably from about 68 percent in 1993 to 87 percent in 2009. Some of this change can be attributed to the climatic change that is experienced all over the world due to the various air and environmental pollution. However the increase can also be attributed to the constant quest of human beings to make the living space more habitable. In an effort to realize better HVAC performance various suggestions have been brought up to replace the current one. Many reasons have been cited trying to explain why the HVAC system should be replaced. The department of energy in the United States Federal

UNCITRAL Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods Essay

UNCITRAL Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods 1980 (CISG), - Essay Example However, out of the seventy-eight member states that are part of the CISG, some leading economies such as India, Brazil, and the United Kingdom are yet to join (Borges 2008, pp. 333). The United Kingdom has its own reasons for not joining the CISG. We shall explore some of these reasons in the discussion. The CISG has experienced immense success since its formation, and its relevance has been felt in several countries due to its ability to provide modern, standardized legislation in the international sale of goods that apply whenever the contracts for the sale of goods have been completed between the parties with a place of business among the contracting states. According to Ferrari (2000, p. 120), one of the key reasons that led to the success of the CISG is that it was widely accepted by states from the entire geographical region, all the vital social, economic, and legal systems, and every stage of economic development. Its aim was that it was to be created in such a way that it w as going to be easy to understand and interpret by each member states. Honnold states that the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International sale of Goods was written in an extremely straightforward and understandable language, which refers to the events and things for which there are words of universal content. The CISG is a significant legislative achievement because it has a massive influence on the worldwide trans-border business laws. Different countries have their own reservations for joining the CISG (Schelechtriem & Schwezwer 2005, pp. 45). The main reasons as to why the United Kingdom had refused to join the convention is that they lacked the time to ratify it, and at the moment it is already not a legislative main concern. The reason as to why it is not a legislative priority at the moment is because there has been slight interest shown by the United Kingdom businesses. These business entities seek to show partnership with the CISG. Unless more interest is s hown at this point, there will be no parliament action on the implementation of the act. The debate of whether the United Kingdom should join the CISG or not should be argued in both ways. In the previous years, the United Kingdom had seen it not necessary to amend its international sales regulation. However, the economic downfall the United Kingdom faced in the year, 2008, made it realize that it was time they made partnership with CISG legislation since it could be seen as denying its people of an extremely potentially useful option. Ratifying the convention so that it could be among many of the European Union nations, Africa, the United States, and the Latin American nations by the UK should also be a priority. However, there are some arguments that the Convention does not similarly benefit anybody. For this, we will also explore why there are such arguments. Countries that have adopted this legislation are capable of eliminating any vagueness in its domestic laws that deal with the international sale of goods. This has enabled the international trade to become hassle free and has also reduced dispute that may arise between trading countries. There are problems that are caused by the United Kingdom’s refusal to join the CISG (Rogowska 2007, pp.230). It has also caused troubles for the rest of the countries that trade with it because different arrangements have to be made. It is essential to realize that with the

FASBs Current Exposure on Revenue Recognition Essay

FASBs Current Exposure on Revenue Recognition - Essay Example The entities will change their revenue recognition policy since the proposed amendment will actually supersede the current revenue recognition of GAAP and also the IFRSs guides in IASs 11 and 18. It is true with the new proposed guidelines that some entities will be more affected than others and the main areas which the board have identified so far include; whether the recognition of that revenue is fully based on the transfer of goods in question or the service like construction services, customized software’s or in the manufacturing areas. The companies will also be required to identify the performance separate duty either by dividing the given contract into parts which are actually distinct and can be delivered at different times, this can make an entity to separate the contract and account for it in a different way as the current accounting practices. The companies will also be required to analyze the intellectual property whether it is less than the actual economic value of the property that is the license is being granted in a non-exclusive or exclusive basis in this case the company will be required to recognize the revenue in terms of the license term, and this will actually be different with the current practices of revenue recognition. The issue on how the credit risk is evaluated is actually contradicting with the current rules and practices and this will have the effect on the credit risk of the customers and the collectability period this will, in turn, affect the number of revenues recognized by an entity rather than when to recognize such revenue. The companies will also be required to use estimates in calculating the transaction price of a commodity unlike the current rigid rules in following of the rules and standards in coming up with the commodity price. The new guidelines also give details on how to account for the cost of contract services, the new proposal, unlike the current guidelines, gives or specify the contract parts to be classified as expenses and the cost to be capitalized.

A short story Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

A short story - Essay Example In fact, Jenna only left the orphanage when she aged out. She was one of the unlucky few who never did find that special family to adopt her even when she paraded before them like an abandoned puppy at the animal shelter. Jenna and Irma were kindred spirits in a way. Both felt that they did not have any family in the world. Irma because her nephew whom she told Jenna lived in the next town and had little or no time to visit her and Jenna because she simply had none. Little did Jenna know that meeting Irma would one change her humdrum life in more ways than one. It was a dehydrating hot July Friday night where Jenna came home from work with a box of pizza and a bowl of Chicken Cesar Salad to share with her neighbor. It was customary for her to head directly for Irmas flat and use the key that had been previously given to her by the old lady to let herself in. Stucky, the dog greeted her at the door. But not with her usual happy whining and wagging tail. The dog seemed disturbed tonight. She barked incessantly and lightly scratched at Jenna the minute she appeared at the door. â€Å"What is it Stucky?† she asked as if the dog could answer her. â€Å"Let me set these things down on the table first.† Jenna almost tripped over the dog who continued to block her path. â€Å"Irma, dinners ready...† she called out towards the open bedroom door. Five minutes later the table was ready but there was still no sign of Irma. â€Å"Irma, the foods getting cold...† she called out yet again. She finally noticed the dog once agai n who was now pulling on her skirt tails. â€Å"Alright Stucky, alright, do you want to go out?† she asked. The dog ran towards the open bedroom door and barked impatiently. â€Å"Is something wrong with Irma?† Jenna asked with a sense of apprehension in her voice. Quickly entering the room she saw the old lady passed out on the floor, her medication bottle seemed to have rolled out of

Impacts of Emotional Intelligence of leaders on job satisfaction and Essay

Impacts of Emotional Intelligence of leaders on job satisfaction and Turnover Intentions of followers 02141 - Essay Example Job satisfaction among its employees has been a fundamental reason of the turnover problem as research conducted by Brunetto et al. (2012) suggests. Conversely, whenever an organisation is committed to emotional intelligence, it becomes easier for its employees to be motivated. In fact, Trivellas et al (2013) found that organisational commitment determines the satisfaction of the staff, hence influencing the turnover intentions. In light of these facts, it is highly recommendable that a research be conducted to find a way to mitigate the situation. Therefore, this research intends to analyse the impact the emotional intelligence of leaders has on job satisfaction and subsequent turnover intentions on followers. Credible statistics have proved that Job Satisfaction (JS), Emotional Intelligence (IE) and Turnover Intentions (TI) are firmly intertwined. In essence, it means that none of it can be overlooked or given more attention that the other (Ganzach and Fried, 2012). Unfortunately, this is not something that many business owners have noticed, but rather they tend to focus on the TI without a decisive action to investigate the root problem (Siddique, 2014). Consequently, this approach has proved to be a dilemma for many business owners. For this reason, it would a grievous mistake not to identify these issues and deal with them conclusively. Corporate play an important role in creating employment thus any issue that could prove to be a hurdle ought to be assessed and dealt with early. Effect Of Nazi Propaganda On Society History Essay

Effect Of Nazi Propaganda On Society History Essay Imagine a world without TV, independent radio, internet, or mobile phones. Imagine that the only information you had was in the form of propaganda and images designed to provoke a reaction and, ultimately, a form of control over you. This was the reality of people living in Germany during the 1930s. Hitler was a destructive man, and it cannot be doubted that Nazi Germany was the most destructive political regime of the twentieth century, not only because it unleashed World war II but because of its impact on society. Hitlers propaganda in the form of images and information alone had a very profound impact on German society. After the seizure of power by the Nazis in 1933, Hitler established a Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda headed by Joseph Goebbels. The ministrys goal was to ensure that the Nazi message was successfully communicated through art, music, theater, film, books, radio, educational materials, and the press. Propaganda is the name for such materials, which is the understood systematic manipulation of an anonymous audience with the help of mass media.(Stout 12) Nazi propaganda was very successful in portraying the Germans as supermen and making Hitler seem almost godlike. What Nazi propaganda did best was make the German people think that world conquest was their destiny and possibly their duty to conquer all people who were inferior to them. It pushed the notion that they were the master race, Joseph Goebbels did a very effective job as Minister of Propaganda in many ways. Not only were posters an effective tool but also the speeches Hitler gave were very carefully orchestrated. The way he would begin the speech very calm and work himself into a frenzy by the end of it, that was a great piece of acting. For the Nazis, propaganda was not only a tool for acquiring new followers, it also took a lead role in the integration of new party members. During wartime, propaganda showed aggression to the opponents of the Nazi Party. Propaganda continuously operated in a very comprehensive sense. Adolf Hitler became the chief propagandist. In autumn 1919, he took responsibility for the propaganda work of the entire party. In 1933, Joseph Goebbels was appointed the Reich Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. Gobbels worked to make better previously developed the principles of Adolf Hitler Nazi propaganda. These basic rules he published in his book Mein Kampf. The Principles of Nazi propaganda were not original, but they fit the contemporary thought. In that same book Hitler wrote about his realization that his propaganda was not only effective but that it had the ability to convince and coerce as art. As author Alan Robbins points out in Dire Image: The Art of Persuasion Hitler was, no toriously, an artist first. In fact thousands of watercolors, oils, and drawings have been attributed to him.(Robbins 165) Now putting these ideas together we see how he was able to manipulate so well, he was a fine artist and coupled with his leadership abilities made him simply unstoppable. Hitler was no ordinary artist however but he was very devoted to it . In the Mein Kampf he even states art is the only truly enduring effort of human labor.(Hitler 215) Hitler himself said All propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to reach. Hitler acknowledged that the images and slogans he produced to rally support needed to be easily recognized and read by everyone. They had to be simple yet powerful at the same time. This relates back to Read Schuchardts point in The Perfect Icon for the Imperfect Postliterate World and his example of the Christian icthus. Schuchardt says But to Christians the text less symbol still signified silent rebellion against the ruling authorities. Within three centuries, the faith signified by the fish had transformed Rome into a Christian empire.(Schuchardt 76) Now thinking back to Germany, we see this is the exact same situation. Hitlers propaganda and images did the same thing, allowing him to rise to power easily and without much opposition at first. His pro-Nazi symbols and posters were easily recognizable by the general popul ation and quite hard to miss. Two of the key points of a successful public propaganda event are the location and time of day. Hitler knew from his own experience that events evenings and other prestigious venues such as sports stadiums, brought the best success. The events were also supported with banners, fanfare, marching columns, flames, torches and banners. At the time people felt well cared for, connected, and thus susceptible to the propaganda messages of Hitler. A prime example of a powerful image produced by Hitler is shown in figure one below. In the poster, it is very hard not to notice the appearance of light around Hitler, almost giving him a halo. Furthermore, the presence of a winged bird lends angelic characteristics to the poster, and this is only enhanced by the presence of wreath-like flowers around the poster. We can also see what appears to be thousands of men behind Hitler holding Nazi flags presumably to show the growing support for him. The major part here is the German phrase below the picture. It means Long live Germany meaning that Hitler is planning to lead the crusade to make Germany the all powerful nation. There is also an Eagle overhead symbolizing majesty and power. Now all else aside, a person viewing that poster would associate Hitler with power and majesty which are two positive characteristics for a leader to have. We soon realize why he rose to power so quickly; it was through images like this. It is clear that certain images can have a profound effect on society. Hitler used the visual effects of poster to show that things were good in the Nazi party. He used images of himself to show the image of unity and reassurance that everything was ok and that people will be treated as a friend. This was a quite effective as the posters and leaflets were put up around the towns and cities in Germany and so the people could gather certain images and information off the Nazi party easily. We can see the overall combined effectiveness of this by looking at history, and what Hitler was able to do with the power that he was granted by using this propaganda. In the end it all comes down to one thing, an image is only effective if the person who views it interprets it as the author intended. Hitler was a very good with images and people who viewed his images interpreted them exactly the way he intended. Consequences from this can still be seen today, after all no other image in history car ries such a shock of recognition as the swastika or a pro Nazi poster. http://www.southaxholme.doncaster.sch.uk/subjects/animations/page1/main%20page/anim%20work/warposters_files/image003.jpg Figure 1

Macbeth Newspaper Article Essay

The flow of blood stopped and History recorded a tragic death. King Duncan over ten years was the most trusted noble. He was a good and Godly man, friend to the poor and defender of the downtrodden. He had been given the title, â€Å"Thane of Fife†. But he is no more with us. Our King Duncan was murdered last night according to the Scotland police authority. King Duncan was assassinated during his stay at Macbeth’s castle in the early morning on (May 12). He died surrounded by those that loved him and his legacy will live on. Duncan’s two guards were considered the main suspects, but were slaughtered by Macbeth at the scene. Authority has conformed the two guards responsible, but has no plan to charge Macbeth either. General Banquo told the police, everything looked good in the dinner. Duncan seemed to have a pleasure time that night. He announced Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as the best host and hostess in the world and had several dances with Lady Macbeth. They had been celebrating until eleven p. m. late at night. They knocked the gate several times before the porter opened it. Then, Macbeth led two to the King’s chamber. While Macbeth and Lenox stayed there discussing the scary storm on Friday night, Macduff discovered horrible scene along. â€Å"O Horror, Horror, Horror! Tongue nor heart can conceive nor name thee! † Macduff cried (Pg 65, line 73).

Death penalty †capital punishment

Death penalty has begun a long time ago, perhaps since Eighteenth Century B.C.   And a hundred or maybe even thousand numbers of murderers and criminals have been sentenced of it.   But the question still remains and is always debatable whether it is just right to have death penalty or not.I may not be directly affected by this capital punishment. But at the back of my mind, I also ask why there must be death penalty or not.   And as I balanced my views and ideas about this, the thought that there should no death penalty weighs more. Now, let’s take a look on the history of death penalty. This punishment has long been practiced since the times of King Hammurabi of Babylon for 25 different crimes. Death penalty was also made as the only punishment for all crimes according to Draconian Code of Athens, Hittite Code and Roman Law of Twelve Tablets.   The punishment of death is carried through drowning, hanging, burning alive, crucifixion, beating to death, and beheading .   And take note of the crimes they considered punishable by death penalty: not confessing to a crime, treason, cutting down and tree and stealing. (Death Penalty Information Center, 2007)America was then influenced by Britain during the colonial period.   And the offenses punishable of death includes stealing grapes, killing chickens, denying the â€Å"true God† or striking one’s parents.Seeing that these are only minor offenses if taken into considerations, abolitionist movements were formed. Some became successful of abolishing the death penalty like in Austria and Pennsylvania except for murder and treason. However, it progress again in Twentieth Century and five out of six abolitionist countries reinstated their death penalty as the America enters World War I.   The good thing is that the number of executions decreased as other nations agreed that the death penalty be limited if not abolished. So even at that time, there are movements of abolishing death pen alty.   Although at some point, others see it as a necessary social measure. Still, as many others do so, I don’t agree of this capital punishment. As I believe that no one has the right to take one’s life for whatever reason.Others argue that death penalty deters crime. But is practicing it not another crime where you also kill a human?   And as always, two wrongs will never make a right thing. For the past years, hundred numbers of prisoners were found to be innocent and released from the death row.   Imagine how they would face the society again.   They may perhaps be damaged inside, having to fear death, disbelieving the justice and all.   And then there were people who have received the death penalty and in the end were found not guilty.   The deathly penalty is really a cruel punishment and yet was not taken carefully by those in authority.   How can one accept it then?I also believe that one can still change.   One can still start a new life. One can have a new life with his family.   And death penalty deprived them this chance. The time they would spend inside the prison would at least let them think about their offenses and realized their mistakes. Sentencing them to death would just make their life easier.   But if they will stay in jail, they would suffer the consequences of their wrongdoings and realize how much prettier life is outside if they didn’t commit the crime. Now this is my opinion.   And this topic of death has always been debatable for the past centuries.   It is then up to you whether you would agree with me or not.   But maybe we should always look at the facts and not merely standing out with our immediate ideas not only about this capital punishment but with all other issues. Be critical.References: College Net Forum. (2007). Retrieved August 26, 2007, from College Net:http://www.collegenet.com/elect/app/app?service=external/Forum&sp=1882Death Penalty Information Center. Conflict of Interests for Researchers - Possible Solutions Essay

Conflict of Interests for Researchers - Possible Solutions - Essay Example This is because researchers are these days continually sponsored by corporate organisations to conduct researches whose results should be what will bring out the best in their goods and/or services. The implication is that the purpose of conducting researches seems to have drastically changed from providing useful and valid information to serving as a tool for boosting sales and patronage. This situation has largely put the integrity of researchers at stake as many people now find it very difficult to believe the results of their research. Researchers frequently find themselves at crossroads where they have to decide what to do; whether they would cook researches or whether they would remain clean and uphold the core ethics of their calling. As opposed to professional ethics, some researchers actually conduct researches but bearing in mind that they must arrive at a particular conclusion, some of them often manipulate samples. For example, in the beverage industry, a researcher whose intention is to show that adults prefer drinking alcohol to drinking any other beverages might go the full hug by changing results of the research in order to accommodate the intended result. A similar thing can happen in any other industries. It is on record that it also happens furtively in the health industry (Crossen 1994 p. 36).

Usability Evaluation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Usability Evaluation - Essay Example Instructions should be provided before answering the survey. The respondents should know the objective in conducting the survey. Moreover, creating an online questionnaire is professional. Therefore, the respondents should take questions more seriously if it is presented in a more professional manner. To create online survey, it is also very important that each question have to be evaluated in gathering the information that is required and to lead the wording response option so that the goal in conducting the survey is achieved (Sue & Ritter, 2007).   Assess the reliability of the collected data and include the survey report. It is important to assess critically the current methods that help to find the best quality of data collected except in exceptional situations. The adequate degree of reliability is attained when the scores are represented correctly in a constructive and quality manner using investigations that significantly shows the validity of that data. Validity of the col lected data is mostly examined using investigated sources and the systematic variations that are observed regularly.  There are two broad criteria that data quality can be identified. The responses from the sources must be meaningful. This means that, the researchers collecting data should reflect something other than a random checking of alternatives. This implies that the responses should reflect on a true assessment of particular behavior such as frequency of purchase and true assessment of some personal characteristic.
